4. Having received multiple accolades like Top 100 CISO, CIO Power List, and World CIO 200, how does it feel and what do you think has been reason for receiving those recognitions?
As a mentor and speaker, I encourage aspiring CIOs and IT professionals to focus on key leadership qualities. First, listen actively to your team—it builds trust and fosters collaboration. Stay curious and embrace continuous learning to keep up with emerging technologies and trends. Always think strategically by aligning IT initiatives with business goals to drive meaningful impact. Empower your team by delegating responsibilities and trusting them, as this builds confidence and accountability. Lastly, lead with integrity and authenticity—strong relationships are the foundation of successful leadership. By following these principles, you can grow into a leader who inspires change and drives results
8. What advice would you give to fresh graduates aspiring to enter the field of IT?
For fresh graduates entering the IT field, enhance your knowledge with online courses or certifications beyond your degree. Gain practical experience through internships or volunteer work to strengthen your resume. Stay adaptable and open to various roles, as the tech landscape is always evolving. Additionally, develop both technical and soft skills to stand out and seek mentorship for guidance and support. Focus on building a strong LinkedIn profile to showcase your skills. Actively network by attending industry events and seeking informational interviews to create connections. Focus on learning AI tools, cloud computing, and IoT, as these are reshaping the IT landscape and highly sought after by top companies. These steps will help you successfully launch your IT career.
9. If you could have a superpower, what would it be and how would you use it?
If I could have a superpower, it would be the ability to read minds. Not for the sake of knowing secrets, but to truly understand what people think and feel beneath the surface. It would help me build deeper connections, communicate more effectively, and support those around me in meaningful ways. In a professional setting, it would enable me to anticipate team needs, resolve conflicts more effectively, and tailor my leadership approach to support individual strengths. Ultimately, this superpower would enhance collaboration and innovation, creating a more empathetic and productive work environment where everyone feels valued and understood.
10. How has your family supported your career and how do you manage to maintain a healthy work-life balance given your extensive professional commitments? Outside of work, what hobbies and interests do you pursue? How do they contribute to your overall well-being?
My journey has been a blend of passion, perseverance, and the unwavering support of my family. Initially, my parents wanted me to become a doctor, but my deep fascination with technology and gadgets led me down a different path. My siblings stood by me, convincing my parents to support my decision. That encouragement was instrumental in shaping my career.
A defining moment came when I moved from Patna to Delhi to join Bharti Airtel. It was my first time traveling by air, and I was filled with nervous excitement. My elder brother guided me through every step, from booking tickets to settling in a new city. That transition was not just a career shift but a personal transformation, making me more resilient and adaptable. Every time I moved cities, it was my wife’s encouragement that gave me the strength to embrace new opportunities. She has been my biggest pillar of support, ensuring our home remained my sanctuary amidst my professional commitments.
Maintaining work-life balance has always been a priority. Despite a demanding career, I make time for my family, ensuring that we create meaningful moments together. Outside of work, I am deeply passionate about music, cricket, and technology. I love singing with my wife and daughters, who share my enthusiasm for music and dance. Kishore Kumar’s melodies help me relax, while Punjabi music adds energy to my days—perhaps an influence from my long years in Delhi. Cricket keeps my competitive spirit alive and reminds me of the importance of teamwork, both in sports and leadership.
Technology is not just my profession; it’s my passion. From assembling my first computer to staying updated with the latest innovations, I’ve always been eager to explore. I enjoy discussing new tech trends with my daughters, who are on their way to becoming future tech leaders themselves. I also spend time reading, writing, and sharing insights on emerging innovations.
At the core of everything I do is a belief in karma, respect for time, and a responsibility toward those who trust me. Leadership, for me, is about continuous learning, inspiring others, and staying true to my values. My journey has been filled with challenges, but with the support of my loved ones, I’ve embraced every step, growing as a leader and innovator along the way.
