1. Can you talk about your school and college life in terms of your studies, exams, scoring marks and extra-curricular activities?

I completed my 10th from Patna High School and pursued Science with Biology in college, initially aiming to become a doctor. However, my deep-rooted passion for technology and gadgets gradually steered me toward the world of computers. I was always curious about how things worked, especially electronic devices, and this curiosity led me to explore beyond textbooks. Alongside excelling academically, I actively participated in cricket and Music . My passion for IT intensified when I successfully assembled my own first computer, solidifying my decision to pursue a career in IT and digital innovation.

2. What inspired you to choose a career in the field of information technology and progress towards cyber security and other areas?

My journey into the field of Information Technology has been profoundly shaped by my innate curiosity and passion for technology. From a young age, I found myself captivated by the inner workings of gadgets, which inspired me to experiment with assembling my own computer. Although I initially pursued a path in Science with a focus on Biology, my growing fascination with computing and digital innovations ultimately redirected my career toward IT.

As I progressed in my professional journey, I became acutely aware of the critical importance of cybersecurity in safeguarding digital assets. This realization motivated me to specialize in cybersecurity, digital transformation, and enterprise IT strategy.
Driven by a continuous learning mindset and a desire to spearhead technological advancements, I have embraced opportunities that challenge me and foster my growth in these dynamic fields. My commitment to staying at the forefront of technology continues to inspire my work and aspirations within the IT landscape.

My cross-industry experience in Telecom, Media, IT, ITES, and Facility Management has significantly influenced my leadership style, fostering adaptability, strategic vision, and a profound understanding of business-technology alignment. Each industry presented unique challenges—scalability in Telecom, innovation in Media, ROI & efficiency in ITES, and security in Facility Management—allowing me to refine my ability to drive digital transformation and cybersecurity initiatives effectively.

By integrating insights from various sectors, I have developed a holistic approach to leadership that emphasizes collaboration and innovation.

In today’s rapidly evolving business landscape, leveraging cross-industry knowledge is invaluable. It enables leaders to identify synergies and capitalize on emerging trends, ultimately driving organizational growth and resilience. My journey underscores the importance of embracing diverse experiences to navigate complex challenges and foster a culture of continuous improvement within teams.

4. Having received multiple accolades like Top 100 CISO, CIO Power List, and World CIO 200, how does it feel and what do you think has been reason for receiving those recognitions?

Getting these Industry and community recognitions is incredibly humbling and rewarding experience. It feels like a recognition of the hard work, strategic vision, and commitment to driving meaningful change in the fields of IT and cybersecurity. These honours reflect my ability to align technology initiatives with business goals, foster collaboration across teams, and embrace innovation to tackle complex challenges like driving digital transformation, managing 24*7 IT Operations, Governance, ROI and mitigation of cybersecurity threats . I believe my focus on continuous learning and adaptability in a rapidly changing industry has also contributed to these achievements. Beyond organizational achievements, contributing to the broader IT community through thought leadership, mentoring, and sharing insights has helped establish my credibility within the industry.

5. With cyber threats evolving rapidly, how do you see the role of CIOs in ensuring enterprise security?

As cyber threats continue to evolve at a rapid pace, the role of CIOs in ensuring enterprise security has become more crucial than ever. They are tasked with aligning technology strategies with overarching business objectives while overseeing comprehensive cybersecurity measures. By fostering collaboration across departments, CIOs can create a unified approach to security. Additionally, implementing robust risk management frameworks and promoting a culture of security awareness empowers employees at all levels to contribute to safeguarding organizational assets. Ultimately, CIOs play a vital role in enhancing resilience against potential attacks, ensuring that the organization remains secure in an increasingly complex digital landscape. The partnership between CIOs and CISOs is essential for strengthening enterprise security in today's rapidly evolving cyber threat landscape. Together, these technologies are reshaping how organizations operate and compete.

7.     As a mentor and speaker, what leadership advice do you give aspiring CIOs and IT professionals?

As a mentor and speaker, I encourage aspiring CIOs and IT professionals to focus on key leadership qualities. First, listen actively to your team—it builds trust and fosters collaboration. Stay curious and embrace continuous learning to keep up with emerging technologies and trends. Always think strategically by aligning IT initiatives with business goals to drive meaningful impact. Empower your team by delegating responsibilities and trusting them, as this builds confidence and accountability. Lastly, lead with integrity and authenticity—strong relationships are the foundation of successful leadership. By following these principles, you can grow into a leader who inspires change and drives results

8.     What advice would you give to fresh graduates aspiring to enter the field of IT?

For fresh graduates entering the IT field, enhance your knowledge with online courses or certifications beyond your degree. Gain practical experience through internships or volunteer work to strengthen your resume. Stay adaptable and open to various roles, as the tech landscape is always evolving. Additionally, develop both technical and soft skills to stand out and seek mentorship for guidance and support. Focus on building a strong LinkedIn profile to showcase your skills. Actively network by attending industry events and seeking informational interviews to create connections. Focus on learning AI tools, cloud computing, and IoT, as these are reshaping the IT landscape and highly sought after by top companies. These steps will help you successfully launch your IT career.

9.     If you could have a superpower, what would it be and how would you use it?

If I could have a superpower, it would be the ability to read minds. Not for the sake of knowing secrets, but to truly understand what people think and feel beneath the surface. It would help me build deeper connections, communicate more effectively, and support those around me in meaningful ways. In a professional setting, it would enable me to anticipate team needs, resolve conflicts more effectively, and tailor my leadership approach to support individual strengths. Ultimately, this superpower would enhance collaboration and innovation, creating a more empathetic and productive work environment where everyone feels valued and understood.

10.     How has your family supported your career and how do you manage to maintain a healthy work-life balance given your extensive professional commitments? Outside of work, what hobbies and interests do you pursue? How do they contribute to your overall well-being?

My journey has been a blend of passion, perseverance, and the unwavering support of my family. Initially, my parents wanted me to become a doctor, but my deep fascination with technology and gadgets led me down a different path. My siblings stood by me, convincing my parents to support my decision. That encouragement was instrumental in shaping my career.

A defining moment came when I moved from Patna to Delhi to join Bharti Airtel. It was my first time traveling by air, and I was filled with nervous excitement. My elder brother guided me through every step, from booking tickets to settling in a new city. That transition was not just a career shift but a personal transformation, making me more resilient and adaptable. Every time I moved cities, it was my wife’s encouragement that gave me the strength to embrace new opportunities. She has been my biggest pillar of support, ensuring our home remained my sanctuary amidst my professional commitments.

Maintaining work-life balance has always been a priority. Despite a demanding career, I make time for my family, ensuring that we create meaningful moments together. Outside of work, I am deeply passionate about music, cricket, and technology. I love singing with my wife and daughters, who share my enthusiasm for music and dance. Kishore Kumar’s melodies help me relax, while Punjabi music adds energy to my days—perhaps an influence from my long years in Delhi. Cricket keeps my competitive spirit alive and reminds me of the importance of teamwork, both in sports and leadership.

Technology is not just my profession; it’s my passion. From assembling my first computer to staying updated with the latest innovations, I’ve always been eager to explore. I enjoy discussing new tech trends with my daughters, who are on their way to becoming future tech leaders themselves. I also spend time reading, writing, and sharing insights on emerging innovations.

At the core of everything I do is a belief in karma, respect for time, and a responsibility toward those who trust me. Leadership, for me, is about continuous learning, inspiring others, and staying true to my values. My journey has been filled with challenges, but with the support of my loved ones, I’ve embraced every step, growing as a leader and innovator along the way.
